Woodbridge Township is one of the largest municipalities in New Jersey and it is not really one place. It is ten of them — Woodbridge proper, Iselin, Colonia, Fords, Avenel, Port Reading, Sewaren, Hopelawn, Keasbey and Menlo Park Terrace — and a move in Colonia has almost nothing in common with a move in Avenel. Most companies quoting a Woodbridge move are adding travel time from somewhere further out. We are not, and on a job priced by the hour that is not a small difference. It also means short-notice work is realistic, and that if a closing slips your things go into our own warehouse minutes away rather than a facility off the Turnpike.
Around Metropark, Woodbridge and Avenel stations there is a growing stock of newer apartment buildings, and they move like small city buildings rather than like a house. Expect a certificate of insurance on file with management before anyone is allowed up, a service elevator booked for a block of hours, a loading area rather than the lobby, and permitted move-in hours. See what a COI is and who has to be named on it, and ask your building for its requirements the day you have a date. It is the single thing most likely to stop a move at the door.
Much of the township is post-war capes, split-levels and colonials, with the things that make those take longer than people expect: a finished basement that has been filling for decades, an attic reached by a pull-down ladder, a detached garage, and a staircase with a turn in it that decides whether the sofa goes up whole. Newer townhouse developments bring a different problem — the nearest place a truck can legally stop is often not the front door, and that long carry is real time. All of it is fine if it is raised at the estimate. None of it is fine if it is found on the morning.
Woodbridge is defined by the roads through it: Route 1 and 9, Turnpike exit 11, Parkway exits 127 and 129. That is convenient for us and it is also why timing matters here more than in a quieter town. We schedule around the peaks rather than pretending they are not there.
