What moving in Westfield actually involves

Westfield is largely older single-family housing — colonials, Victorians and centre-hall homes, many of them close to a century old. That shapes the move more than the mileage does. Staircases are narrower than in newer construction, landings are tighter, and a king bed or a large sectional often has to be taken apart rather than walked up whole. We would rather find that out on the survey than on the morning.

Driveways, trees and where the truck sits

A lot of Westfield driveways are single-width, and mature street trees mean a full-size trailer cannot always park where you would like it. On those streets we shuttle with a smaller truck or stage the load from the kerb. If your street has parking restrictions or you need the town to reserve space in front of the house, tell us at the estimate rather than the week of — those arrangements are made with the town and they take time.

Downtown and the station

The apartments and condominiums near the centre of town and the Raritan Valley Line station are a different job again: loading zones, limited standing time, and buildings that want a certificate of insurance on file before a crew comes in. We issue COIs as a matter of course, but the managing agent needs a few days to approve one.

The moves we do most here

Two patterns dominate. Families moving up within Westfield or from neighbouring Cranford, Garwood, Scotch Plains and Mountainside, and households leaving for the shore, the Carolinas or Florida. We handle both, and we can hold furniture in our own Rahway warehouse if your closings do not line up — a common problem here and a solvable one.

Getting an estimate

Tell us the number of rooms, whether there is a basement or attic in play, and anything unusual — a piano, a gun safe, a garage full of tools. Small local jobs we can price from a room count without a survey.
