Cranford, and what the river changes

Cranford is a Union County town built around the Rahway River, and the river is a genuine moving consideration rather than scenery. Properties in and near the flood plain often have raised or unfinished basements, and in some cases whole ground floors that have been rebuilt. What that means practically is that the storage rooms are not always where you would expect them, and access to them is sometimes tighter.

The housing is mostly older single-family colonials and capes, with apartments and rentals concentrated around the downtown and the train station. Those downtown buildings occasionally need a certificate of insurance and a lift reservation, which we arrange.

We are eight minutes down the road in New Jersey, which is genuinely relevant for a smaller Cranford job. A studio or a one bedroom moving within town is a short day, and the closer the truck starts the less of it you pay for.

What we ask before we quote it

  • Whether the basement is finished, and how the stairs run
  • Whether either address is a downtown apartment with building rules
  • What is in the attic and the garage
  • How close a truck can park to the door
