A shipment leaving the country gets handled far more times than one crossing the state. It is packed differently, it is documented differently, and it is built to survive people who will never meet you.

On an ocean shipment it is lifted at the residence, again into the container, again at the port, again at the destination port, again into the destination warehouse and again at the delivery address — and it spends weeks in between in a steel box that gets hot, cold and damp. Cartons are heavier grade, fills are denser, and nothing travels leaning on anything else.
Crates are built to the piece rather than bought off a shelf, so the item is suspended inside rather than resting against a wall of the box.
Every carton and every loose piece is numbered, described and recorded as it is packed. Customs works from it, the forwarder works from it, the destination agent checks against it, and if anything is ever claimed, it is the inventory that decides the conversation. We write it at the residence while the item is in front of us, not afterwards from memory.
Where a valued inventory is required, it is prepared in the format your forwarder or relocation programme asks for.
